Improving selectivity of ion-sensitive membrane by polyethylene glycol doping

چکیده

Hydrophobic ions can generate considerable interference to ion detection in a complex analyte with membrane-based ion-selective sensors, due the hydrophobic interaction. In this paper, we demonstrate that from interaction sensors be significantly reduced by incorporating hydrophilic polyethylene glycol (PEG) into membrane. The sensor is silicon nanowire field-effect transistor (SiNWFET) its surface functionalized an ionophore-doped mixed-matrix membrane (MMM), where ionophore either commercial Na-ionophore ? or novel synthetic metal-organic supercontainer. incorporation of PEG suppresses partitioning MMM and thus reduces their target ions. This evidenced improvement selectivity for Na+ presence interfering methylene blue (MB+) more than order magnitude. It further enables MB+ using SiNWFET array multiplexed manner controlled susceptivity cross-interference greatly expanded dynamic range.

Sensitive measurement of polyethylene glycol-modified proteins.

An IgM monoclonal antibody (AGP3) against polyethylene glycol (PEG) was used to assay PEG-modified proteins by ELISA. PEG-modified beta-glucuronidase could be measured at concentrations as low as 15 ng/mL, corresponding to 750 pg (1.8 fmol) of conjugate. This ELISA should be generally applicable to all PEG-modified proteins because AGP3 binds the backbone of the PEG chain independent of the lin...

Polyethylene Glycol Repairs Damaged Membrane; Biophysical Application of Artificial Planar Bilayer to Mimic Biological Membrane

Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is a hydrophilic polymer, known to be capable to fuse numerous single cells in vitro, to join the membranes of adjacent neurons and giant invertebrate axons, and to seal damaged neural membranes. The molecular mechanism of the action of PEG is still unknown. It is believed that PEG dehydrates membranes and enables their structural components to resolve and rearrange in...

Simulation of polyethylene glycol and calcium-mediated membrane fusion.

We report on the mechanism of membrane fusion mediated by polyethylene glycol (PEG) and Ca(2+) by means of a coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulation approach. Our data provide a detailed view on the role of cations and polymer in modulating the interaction between negatively charged apposed membranes. The PEG chains cause a reduction of the inter-lamellar distance and cause an increase in ...

Plasma expansion by polyethylene-glycol-modified albumin.

Systemic inflammatory response conditions are associated with capillary leak and haemodynamic compromise. Fluid resuscitation to reverse the ensuing hypovolaemia is, however, complicated by the decreased endothelium reflection coefficient to albumin and other colloids. We developed PEG-Alb (albumin covalently linked to polyethylene glycol) as a potential resuscitative agent. PEG was covalently ...
